Back towards the end of the 1980s, getting online was very much a do-it-yourself kind of thing, and while you didn’t have to be an expert to get online, you did need a lot more basic knowledge of software, hardware and communications facilities and services than the typical web user needs today, just to get started.
This article, from the December 1988 issue of Amiga User International, addressed the software side of going online to bulletin boards and similar text-based services as well as the much scarcer viewdata systems like The Gnome at Home or Prestel.
